What is Security Laminate?

Window Security Laminate is a cost effective product that consists of many thin layers of pliable polyester coatings that are laminated together into sheets that are usually in the range of 4 mm to 21 mm thick. Films on the higher end of this thickness scale are stronger and offer more security for your windows. Security laminates are NOT bullet resistant and they will NOT keep your glass from breaking. They DO however, keep your glass bonded together if it does break and provides incredible resistance for anyone trying to break in. With non-laminated glass, someone trying to break in would simply break the glass and push the pieces out of the way to gain access. With laminated glass, someone would have to expend a lot of effort and time to penetrate the glass to gain access. Compared to bullet resistant polycarbonate "glass", window security laminate does not provide as much protection but also costs 5 times less. When it comes to a "cost per performance" analysis, window security laminates are the perfect choice for enhancing security on a budget.

What Does The Process Look Like?

Step 1: Clean Your Windows & Prepare The Area For Installation

Step 2: Spray The Glass & Laminate Sheet With Solution

Step 3: Secure Laminate To Glass Surface

The very first thing we do is confirm the measurements, prepare the areas for install, cut the laminate sheets, and clean the windows.
After the laminate is cut and the area is prepped, the installer will spray the glass & laminate sheet with slip solution and stick it on the glass.
Once the laminate is placed on the glass, the installer will ensure it fits within 1/8" of the entire frame. The isntaller will then adhere the laminate to the glass.

Step 4: Inspect The Laminate & Clean & Dry the Entire Glass

Step 5: Install The Attachment System

Step 6: You Enjoy Your New Secured Glass

Our installer will inspect the laminate and once confirmed, they will clean the glass & frame and prep it for the installation of the wet glaze anchoring.
Our installer will tape off the required glass & frame to expose 3/8" to 1/2" (depending on frame size). They will then install the wet glaze product and tool it to leave a factory seal look.
Your glass is finished! Look over to ensure your satisfaction. Then just sit back and enjoy your new secured windows and piece of mind.

How Much Does It Cost?

Every project is different and has variables that dictate true costs. In general, you can expect to spend around $21 per Square Foot for each layer of 8 mil laminates and around $24 per Square Foot for each layer of 15 mil laminates. Every project is tailored to the customers specific needs. For example, if a residential customer is just wanted piece of mind then one layer of their preferred thickness would be just fine. However, for a commercial customer, who is located in an area with increased break-ins and wants to ensure their property and themselves are protected, it would be advised to install a minimum of two (2) layers of higher-end laminates.
